The Calm Before the Unknown

First off…Happy Spooky Season! It’s the start of my favorite time of the year and also a wonderful excuse to watch all the Halloween movies on Freeform. During my very productive movie-watching evenings, I have entered the final packing countdown. My apartment looks like the entire stock of Walmart cardboard boxes exploded in my small one-bedroom apartment. I don’t understand how one person can accumulate so much stuff…out of sight, out of mind. I never wish moving on anyone, it’s the worst kind of torture to get to your destination.

I officially move out of my apartment on Saturday, October 24, pack up Goldie Lacrosse and we’ll make our way up to Oregon. But before I start thinking about that adventure, let me tell you about the one I am currently on. In the heat of a travel conversation with my brother and his girlfriend, who are also currently galivanting around CA, I decided to stay at their place in NYC for a couple weeks. That’s right, in the midst of all my packing and getting ready for the next stage in my life, I decided to take a trip to the East Coast for three weeks. Why? Because why not! I’m in the fortunate situation where I have the freedom to work wherever my computer gets wifi.

I know in the midst of a pandemic it may not be the soundest decision, but New York is thriving. Restaurants are open with lots of outdoor seating, people give you space and fewer people are allowed in places. My ideal kind of situation.

I took a trip over the weekend with my East Coast friends and witnessed a very different way of life in America. In a small town near the Poconos Mountains in Pennsylvania, we were greeted with refreshing Autumn weather, a bright fall color palette, and the chance to finally wear layers! May seem basic and lame, but after a very long and hot summer I was in heaven. The skies were rich in clear blue skies and sunshine. We could not have asked for a better weekend. During our trip we visited Blue Ridge Winery, Carbon County Fair (see last picture), Stroudsburg, and the Great Pocono Pumpkin Festival.

I am a strong supporter of masks and believe they should be worn at all times, especially when near others not in your party. I only remove my mask when there are no other people around or frolicking in vineyards.
